About PPA

The Philippine Psychiatric Association was created in 1972 in response to a growing need to establish an organization sensitive to the needs of Filipino psychiatrists.  Led by its founding president, Dr. Lourdes Ladrido-Ignacio, the first set of officers was inducted in 1972, and the association was recognized by the Philippine Medical Association in 1973. Since then, the Philippine Psychiatric Association has envisioned itself as a premier organization of leaders in the advancement of mental health and psychiatric care globally.  True to its guiding vision, PPA has held 43 annual conventions, 33 postgraduate courses, and numerous outreach activities with the primary goal of advancing Philippine psychiatry through the development of its members as leaders in the provision of the best standards of care for the wellbeing of the Filipino people.
