About AFPA

The Asian Federation of Psychiatric Associations (AFPA) is a federation of national psychiatric societies and associations in Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and Oceania, who support the goal of achieving excellence in Asian psychiatry. The federation was established in 2002, when leading Asian psychiatrists decided to form a network of psychiatric associations based exclusively in Asia.  The first president of the AFPA was Prof Naotaka Shinfuku, and its first world congress was held in 2007 in Goa, India.  Shortly after the success of its first world congress, annual congresses were held in collaboration with its member societies.  Previous world congress venues include Taiwan, Australia, Thailand, Japan, and the United Arab Emirates.  For the first time in AFPA history, the 2018 world congress will be held in Manila, Philippines, in joint cooperation with the Philippine Psychiatric Association.
